The opening of the «New Wave 2011» contest.
The opening of the international contest of young pop singers «New Wave 2011» took place on the 26th of July in the concert hall “Dzintari”, Jurmala.
The ambassador of Russia in Latvia A.Veshnjakov read the telegram of salutation in the name the Russian Federation President, Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev. Other salutatory greetings were received from the Presidents of Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Armenia, as well as the salutation from the Latvian President, Andris Bērziņš.
In the opening program performed artists like I.Krutoy, R.Pauls, Iosif Kobzon, Dima Bilan, Leonid Agutin, Sergey Lazarev, Oleg Gozmanov, Jasmin, Batirhan Shukenov, Rosa Rimbaeva, Valerya, Goran Bregović, Gregory Leps, Valery Leontyev, Vera Brezhneva, Philipp Kirkorov, special guest of the «New Wave» - English soul and R&B singer-songwriter and recipient of BRIT, MTV and three Grammy Awards, SEAL and others.
Following tradition, the performance order for the 1st competition day was identified on stage at the opening day. Stars, who performed that evening, defined the performance numbers, which were hidden under sandglasses.

The final accord was a parade of the contestants with flags representing their countries: a traditional presentation of the finalists which performances will watch and follow millions of viewers from the 26th – 31st of July on their TV’s.
